West Indies vs India, 1st ODI LIVE Cricket Score 8 August 2019

India have previously resisted any urge of an ODI reinvention and are unlikely to make an exception for this one. They have 11 players that made the trip to England for the World Cup and two others - Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer - who had reasons to believe they should have been there as well. They'll, however, get a chance to see what their 50-over life without MS Dhoni will look like in the not-so-distant future.

When: West Indies vs India, 1st ODI, August 8, 2019, 09:30 Local, 19:00 IST

Where: Providence Stadium, Guyana

What to expect: As is the case with most cricket games in Guyana, rain will have a say at some point. To what extent, is the big question. Meteorologists have forecasted scattered thunderstorms during the early hours of the morning, which are expected to abate by noon.

The pitch for the final T20I, at the same venue, played truer than has been the norm in Guyana in recent seasons. Bangladesh played two ODIs here last year and scored 268 and 279 in their two digs. Teams will look at those numbers for their 'par' calculations before re-calibrating on the day.

Team News

West Indies: West Indies had a massive issue with their openers, with the opening pairs managing just 99 runs in eight innings through the World Cup. Evin Lewis had a torrid time in the T20 series against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in particular and will force the management into considering John Campbell to begin the series. West Indies have included Roston Chase in the squad and could pair him with Fabian Allen if they believe in the spin-conducive powers of the Providence Stadium pitch. In that case, one of the fast bowlers (or Carlos Brathwaite) will have to sit out.

Probable XI: Evin Lewis/John Campbell, Chris Gayle, Shai Hope (wk), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder (c), Fabian Allen, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Kemar Roach

India: India will welcome back Shikhar Dhawan to the top of their line-up, thereby demoting KL Rahul back to No.4 - a position he was originally slotted at before the former was ruled out of the World Cup. Manish Pandey and Shreyas Iyer had productive outings with the 'A' side recently since June 2018, averaging 77.90 and 47.33 respectively. An immediate reward is likely to be a No. 5 berth with Rishabh Pant possibly dropping down to six. Ravindra Jadeja's recent form might force Kohli into playing only one of Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal - both of whom underwhelmed at the World Cup - while Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed will jostle for a place vacated by the resting Jasprit Bumrah.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey/Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini/Khaleel Ahmed

- Virat Kohli is 19 runs shy of pipping Javed Miandad as the player with the most ODI runs against West Indies

What they said:

"For us, the priority has always been to be one of the most consistent sides in the world and in the last three to four years, I think we've been able to achieve that. We're the no.2 side in the world and there's a good reason to that. We've been at no.1 as well sometime. It's the kind of cricket that we've played that has gotten us up here." - Virat Kohli
